3 Reasons Why Your Extensions Are Still Low
You've stretched for years and your extensions have barely moved. It isn't your body and it isn't a lack of effort — it's what you've been training. Here are the 3 reasons your extensions are stuck, and how to finally lift them higher, fast.
Years Of Practice. Extensions That Barely Move.
You've done everything you were told. You stretch before class, after class and on your days off. You hold your splits for minutes at a time. You've heard "lift higher" more times than you can count.
And yet, year after year, your extensions barely move. Your développé lands at the same height it always has, you can't hold it there without gripping and shaking, and other dancers seem to float their legs up without even trying.
It's easy to decide you just don't have the "right" body for it. But that's almost never the real problem.
Most dancers are simply training the wrong things. Fix them, and your extensions can transform far faster than years of stretching ever managed. Here's what's holding yours back.
You Stretch — But You Don't Build Strength
Most dancers spend hours stretching and almost no time training strength. It seems logical: if you want your leg higher, get more flexible.
But flexibility only gives you the potential for range. Strength is what actually lifts your leg and holds it high. Without it, your leg only goes as high as momentum can throw it — and drops the moment you try to hold it there.
Yet this is the part almost every dancer ignores.
You're Training The Wrong Type Of Flexibility
Worse still, the stretching most dancers do is the wrong kind.
Long, passive holds — sinking into your splits, pulling your leg up with your hand, leaning into a stretch for minutes — build passive flexibility: range you can only reach with help.
Extensions need active flexibility — range you can reach and control with your own muscles, with no hand, no barre and no momentum. Passive holds do next to nothing to develop it, which is why your splits can keep improving while your extensions stay exactly where they are.
Your Body Isn't Working Together
The last reason is how your body works as a unit.
A high extension doesn't come from your leg alone. It comes from integrating your core into the movement and using the right muscles to lift — a stable centre that lets your leg rise freely.
When that connection is missing, you end up trying to force the leg up instead. Hips hike, shoulders tense, the standing leg grips, and all that effort goes into fighting yourself instead of lifting higher.
Effortless Extensions
That's exactly why I created Effortless Extensions — a program that trains everything stretching alone misses:
Strength to lift your leg and hold it high.
Active flexibility to hold it there and feel stable and powerful at end range.
Integration so your core and the right muscles work together as one unit — instead of forcing it.
No more years of stretching and hoping. Just training that targets what actually makes extensions higher.
